When you are in the market to buy a house, the best thing you could find is one that is in move in condition. By the seller having their house in this state, it will probably sell faster and for a better price. What the seller has done by redecorating the house is essentially changed the packaging. Just like other products, the package has to be attractive for someone to consider buying it.

While giving the house a makeover main purpose for honest people is to make it look better, dishonest people have an ulterior motive.

Dishonest people will redecorate to hide things. They will try and hide damage to walls by putting paneling over them. They will try and hide damage to a hardwood floor by putting carpet over it. They will try and hide other problems any way they can.

You should look very carefully and ask questions. Ask why they put up paneling instead of drywall. Ask why they covered up the hardwood floors. Did they have pets that urinated on the floor and stained it? When it gets hot, you may find out by the odor that comes from it.

Another consideration when buying a house that had been recently redecorated is to find out if the owners did it or if they hired someone to do it. IF they hired someone or a company to do all the redecorating, you should make sure that person or company was paid. If the bill was not paid, you may get a surprise the next time you go for credit or check your credit report. If these people were not paid and you bought the house, the company or person may put a lean on your house to recover the money they never got from the original owner. You are living in the house all this work was done in. So it makes sense that the lean would be on that property.
